O.T.A.J. (Ode to a Jumpsuit)

Hey. You remember Jay Z’s classic track, D.O.A. (Death of Auto-Tune)? Yes? No, probably not. Anyway, I’ve given the lyrics (available to view online on Genius) an abridged, dweeby retune on the subject of my favourite item of clothing, which has unjustly not been seen on the high street for quite some time. Dweeby lyrics because I’ve switched some of the OG lyrics into RP English (and a cheeky bit of Old English). Check it out.

Hmm de le loo
Greetings, farewell (Come back here!)
Hwaet!

Only clothing to sew up the era without a step
No status on the floor, once upon a time
Entrance…
Entrance

This is jumpsuit, queen of the catwalk
This is not for New Look, this is not for Prada
This is vintage at the top stage, bring a ring
Preferably with a sizable jewel that can shine a bit
Weirdly – it might be absolutely perfect (Yay!)
Or perhaps adequately defect (Boo!)
This style inclines some to look away in disgust (Huh?)
Get your style on
This finest of garments I may don (Woo!)
I know there’s a lack
Of that most fancy item on the clothes stack
(Shameful!)
All this lack of fashion
Pull this stuff on, get some style (Yay! Style!)
Friend, this stuff’s fancy
This is a jumpsuit, master of high stance

Hmm de le loo
Greetings, farewell (Have patience)

Only clothing to sew up the era without a step
No status on the floor, once upon a time
Entrance…
Entrance
Hwaet!

This is not a show (No!)
This is a goshdarn phenomenon (No!)
I made this with some silk and –
Velvet, I want adversaries to feel envy (No!)
Cease your abominable rage
Calm yourself with clementine, thyme, sage
Your trousers are dull
Not bright like mine, you’re heavy like brine (too salty, eh?)
(No! No!)
I might wear jumpsuit for a year straight (Yeah!)
I might bring super cool hats (Yeah!)
This is not made for the bind
This style is for the open of mind
Friendo, this stuff’s good
This is a jumpsuit, master of high stance

Yep, so that’s a rap. Not really, but anyway. So…if you fancy seeing more of me ripping apart superior lyrics with my own inferior prose, then check out the link below for some Leonard Cohen ruminations.
