Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery – Teaser Trailer

– The first image of a cruise ship confirms that we’ll be leaving the land of the original film and heading into the deep depths of the sea for a decent portion of the movie. Does a character meet their watery demise?

– We see the key suspects lined around a table beneath a fancy chandelier and in front of an elaborate mural as they stare at an unknown figure, presumably Daniel Craig’s Benoit Blanc. Some serious detective work is about to go down, and it’s gonna be done in style; Craig’s subsequent Forghorn Leghorn drawl all but confirms this.

– The puzzling nature of the mystery is laid out in an array of actual puzzles here, both in terms of the trailer titles and the apparent events taking place within the film. Even the opening text is a nice intricate addition, with the words ‘This Day Sea’ branching out into ‘This Holiday Season’ as the puzzle table opens out at the same time. Nice.

– The camera flashes over some of the suspects as Blanc’s narration assures the viewer that he’s not here to play, despite the various puzzles we see displayed.

– Some more fancy text work in the title card as the ‘a’ in Craig’s last name quickly switches back to its proper position. The following title cards of the actors playing the untrustworthy cruisers appear comparatively more intricately, reflecting their suspicious, more complex natures.

– Tridents are wielded, fancy dances are danced, and bullets are unnecessarily shot. We get a very brief glimpse of the eponymous glass onion sitting atop a fancy apartment before Blanc informs characters to hide from danger.

– We watch a shocked Edward Norton stare at something as Dave Bautista’s character asks when the real shit’s gonna go down, and the subsequent credits merely tell us it’s ‘Coming Soon’. C’mon teaser trailer, don’t tease us like that.
