I wasn’t sure what to think of Bodies going into it, having little to no context about the plot. From the vague things I’d seen advertised, it seemed like a standard period crime drama, but I gradually realised there’s a lot more going on once the story progressed. A conventional set-up where a Victorian police officer discovers a dead body turns into something more complex when said body is also found in the same location by detectives in the 1940s war-torn England, our modern day England, and once more in a dystopian futuristic England.

If you’re readying yourself for a Nicolas Cage film, then it’s worth considering what level of Cage you’re going to get. You might get a fairly Mild Cage (think Pig, Into The Spiderverse). You might get Medium Cage (Kick-Ass, Colour Out of Space). You could get Hot Cage (Face/Off, Wild at Heart), and you might even stumble upon some golden Extra Hot Cage (Vampire’s Kiss, The Wicker Man). Yes, some have rated Cage on their own Nicolas Cage scale. I’ve just rated a few of his films on a Nando’s sauce level scale. Groovy, hm?

After a swift opening credits montage accompanied by electronic beats, a focused man looks out of a window and lists a series of mantras, throwing a few autistically precise numerical facts out there for the audience to chew. My immediate thoughts went to the opening scene in Drive, even though the guy here is talking in a monologue rather than out loud.
