The Long Walk is a grim joint based on a Stephen King novel where a bunch of lads sign up to win a lot money plus a free request if they’re the final one standing. Basically, walk or die, as the tagline reads. If you’re a fan of that Hunger Games/Squid Game kind of thing, you’ll know what to expect. And the 25k walk is a 25k walk I did last week for charity. So…some subtle differences there. But let’s get down to the important questions. Ten of them, to be precise.

How long is the walk?

The Long Walk: Long, ok? It’s in the title, y’know? Indefinite. My 25k walk: Uh…25k.

How fast do you have to walk?

The Long Walk: 3 miles per hour My 25k walk: I think we set ourselves a target, but I can’t remember exactly what it was. Informative, no? ヘ(* 。* ヘ)

How long will the walk take?

The Long Walk: However long it takes for everyone else to die My 25k walk: Including all our breaks, it took us around 7 hours. Thanks for asking. ´･ᴗ･`

What happens if you stop walking?

The Long Walk: You get a few warnings, and then you get shot and killed. My 25k walk: Well, you catch your breath for a mo and then you carry on moving.

How hilly is the terrain?

The Long Walk: Generally pretty flat, by the looks of it. Apart from that one super steep hilly bit to raise narrative tension. My 25k walk: A bit of up and down walking in the first portion, but pretty much hella flat for the final 10k. (─‿─)

Is there anyone there to help with motivation?

The Long Walk: Yes, a bunch of men ready to shoot you with guns if you don’t walk fast enough. My 25k walk: Yes, there are multiple trek guides to help you out along the way.

Is there clear signage?

The Long Walk: Not really. I guess the men following the lads in a tank are a form of signage? My 25k walk: Yes, everything’s clearly signed and legible. ٩(^ᗜ^ )و ´-

Are there snacks?

The Long Walk: Only if you bring ’em My 25k walk: As a matter of fact, yes. There’s an awesome pit stop area where you can fill your body with glorious sugary treats. ( ദ്ദി ˙ᗜ˙ )

Do you get some expositional flashbacks about your past life?

The Long Walk: Sure you do. My 25k walk: No, you don’t. But you do get to look some nice scenes of nature. And you get sore thighs and glutes at the end. Wonderful. ♡⸜(˶˃ ᵕ ˂˶)⸝♡

Is there a prize at the end?

The Long Walk: Yes. Lots of money and one personal request. My 25k walk: Also yes. A cool medal and a nice free hot meal. Swell.
