In the house. By myself, mostly. Hooray.

Buying Unhealthy Food

I’m usually a shredded wheat kind of gal. Maybe I’ll dabble with Weetabix from time to time, maybe not. Perhaps some bran flakes. Bland, sure, but healthy nonetheless. In holiday mode, though? Heck, I’m gonna buy myself some honey cheerios. Nice, sugary heart (un)healthy cheerios. Wonderful. I remember making my way through over half a box of cheerios when I was younger (the edible contents within the box, not the box itself. That’d be a new level of feral) before my parents noticed and put it away. This was around the time that the first or second Shrek movie was out, because I remember a cut-out Shrek mask on the back of the box. Thought you’d like to know.

Another luxury product I purchased was a bottle of raspberry lemonade. I’ll usually settle for those small bottles of fizz. And by fizz, I’m referring to non-alcoholic fizzy drink, not wine. Me, alcohol? I think not. Nope, raspberry lemonade’s good for me. Besides from ready meals, the essential product to buy was a selection of Krispy Kreme doughnuts that were Biscoff-flavoured. Or at least they became essential when I saw them. Even though they were overpriced as hell. Sometimes, however, you gotta do what you gotta do. And I had to get those doughnuts. Were they a tad underwhelming? Sure. But I had to do it.

Walking the Dog

While most of my family went away on holiday, there’s one furry family member who couldn’t join. I mean, technically he could, but our 14-year-old border terrier would’ve slowed people down and decreased other’s enjoyment. Sorry pooch, but it’s true. You can stay home and enjoy the mojo dojo casa house. So yeah, three walks every day and three meals every day. And you were pretty well-behaved overall. One vomit incident, but yeah, other than that, pooch, you did good.

Watching Films

What’s there to do when you’re on your own, you ask? Well, you can watch films, of course. These ranged from good (Nope) to generally not so good, but fun (The Running Man, Venom: Let There Be Carnage). I’d watched Jordan Peele’s latest film a couple of times before, and it still stood up very well. If you still think about those chimp chaps the same way after this flick, then…that’s odd. I wasn’t sure what to expect from The Running Man, but it wasn’t particularly good. Arnie saying ‘I’ll be back’ at one point also detracted from the atmosphere. I’m up for ‘whacky’ sci-fi if it has a heart (see: The Fifth Element, one of the films responsible for my first love of sci-fi), but I didn’t feel engaged with any of the characters here, partly because of minimal character development, and partly because it’s just difficult to see Arnie outside of his Rainer Wolfcastle persona. Entertaining, but nothing to shout about. The second Venom film was similarly dumb yet entertaining. The first one set the silly tone, but Woody Harrelson’s baddie adds an extra level of stupidity. It’s popcorn fare, essentially, and doesn’t require a lot of focus. It’s still a nice tonic from the increasingly dull MCU fare, but it’s not going to change the superhero sphere any time soon.

Playing Too Much Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door

And finally, the big one. I recently 100%ed this guy and will be giving it a longer review soon, but yeah, this was too much fun. The difficulty curve wasn’t really there in recent rerelease Super Mario RPG, but it’s definitely here, and the light comedy works better here too. Ultimately, the graphics are never going to match up to my favourite visuals from main games like Galaxy, and obviously, they shouldn’t aim to. This is a remake from outside the main series with an earlier, now-inferior console in the sense of visuals. The cartoon-like animation is still a lot of fun, and there’s plenty to enjoy here. Let’s a-go.

Various members of the household have had nice holidays away recently, so I felt justified to have a nice holiday of my own.
